Students will show that they can identify problems in their field and address them by applying the five (5) program learning outcomes:
PLO 1: Appraise a societal issue using criminal theory and policy through the lenses of the three pillars of criminal justice.
PLO 2: Apply best practices from national and international justice systems to bring societal order.
PLO 3: Develop data-based recommendations to resolve issues in criminal justice.
PLO 4: Interpret the constitution and legal implications as they apply to issues facing stakeholder in the criminal justice system.
PLO 5: Apply interdisciplinary leadership practices based on evidence that promotes ethical, and collaborative sustainable change in criminal justice.
This set of guidelines will serve as a checklist as you progress through the course. It is important that you read and acknowledge the requirements before beginning.
The capstone course is divided into four modules. Each module is designed to assist you in progressing from topic formulation to the final product. Traditional capstone or master’s theses require a formal research paper. The MCJ 698 Capstone is unique in that you have options in terms of the final deliverable. While a research paper is acceptable, you are encouraged to considered alternative formats. For instance, a documentary, a series of interviews, a series of podcasts, short essays, etc. Regardless of the final deliverable, all projects must include the following elements:
Introduction/background of the social justice issue or organizational problem.
Connection of the social justice issue or organizational problem to the three pillars of criminal justice.
Connection of the social justice issue or organizational problem to criminological theories, policies, and constitutional law.
Application of best practices from national and international justice systems.
Ethical considerations and leadership practices.
Findings/data analysis, and proposed solution(s).
Conclusions and final recommendations.
Portfolio Project Milestone, you must ensure you have a fully approved project for your Final Capstone Project. Then, building on your work in Module 1 Portfolio Project Milestone and with a specific focus on your service project at the company you selected, develop the following subsections of your project:
Change Requests – including corrective action, preventive action, and defect repair.
Procurement documents – including contract information for key stakeholders and suppliers, and supplier lists.
Project Management Ethics – including PMI expectations.
And optionally:
Tools and Techniques – including interviews, focus groups, decision-making, prototypes, benchmarking, or other tools and techniques.
Procurement management – including make-or-buy analysis, market research, and source selection documents.
Change Control Board – including their role in the change control system.
Validate Scope – including methods of accepting deliverables, group decision-making, work performance information, and inspection.
Control Procurements – including contract change control, payment systems, and claims administration.
International Project Considerations – including the use of human resources from outside the United States or executing the project outside the United States.
In collaboration with the approved course preceptor, students will identify a specific evidence-based topic for the capstone project change proposal. Students should consider the clinical environment in which they are currently employed or have recently worked. The capstone project topic can be a clinical practice problem, an organizational issue, a leadership or quality improvement initiative, or an unmet educational need specific to a patient population or community. The student may also choose to work with an interprofessional collaborative team.
Students should select a topic that aligns to their area of interest as well as the clinical practice setting in which practice hours are completed.
Write a 500-750 word description of your proposed capstone project topic. Include the following:
The problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project that will be the focus of the change proposal.
The setting or context in which the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project can be observed.
A description (providing a high level of detail) regarding the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.
Effect of the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.
Significance of the topic and its implications for nursing practice.
A proposed solution to the identified project topic with an explanation of how it will affect nursing practice.
You are required to cite to a minimum of eight peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice. Plan your time accordingly to complete this assignment.
